Daniel has been talking up a storm. We understand him about 80% of the time. He has some cute nicknames for things:
Missy Lou - Chi Chi Loo Loo
Pizza - Cha Cha
Mary Linnley - NinLey
Welles' dad - PaPa (should be GrandPa)
Mickey Mouse - Kiki
Goofy - Foofy
Donald - Dondal
He says the following words very well:
Car
Truck
My dad - Pop
My mom - Gigi
My sister - Aunt B! (he always says it with a british accent and an exclamation point)
He knows his colors and loves to point out cars and say, "Mama, Reht Car!" He loves to be praised when he gets it right (about 90% of the time).
Yellow - Lellow
Red - Reht
Black - Back
White - Whi-tuh
Green - Geen
Blue - Booo
Purple - PuhrPur
Orange - Orch
Brown - Bown
The other day, I was walking with Daniel as he was riding his red car. We had gotten far enough from the house that I knew if he got tired I would have to carry both him and the car back. So, I said, Let's turn around and hit the road. With no objections, he turned his little car around. Then he put his hand on the ground. I looked at him, puzzled, and then said, "Come on buddy, Let's hit the road!" He leaned down and put his hand on the ground...he WAS hitting the road!
He loves to tell me how to drive from the backseat. If there is a red light, he says, "Reht - Stop!" When it turns green, he says, "Geen, Go!"
Whenever we pull into the church parking lot on Wednesday nights, he exclaims, "EAT!" Funny, he doesn't say that on Sunday mornings.
The other night, we were walking into the fellowship hall at church and Daniel immediately said, "Papa, where are you?" Welles' parents usually show up before us and this particular night we beat them. It was so cute to see him looking for his grandfather.
We went to my great aunt and uncle's house one afternoon, and Daniel pointed out a clock in their living room. The next day, we went to the new Chick-fil-A in southside and we heard westminster chimes coming from Highland Methodist Church. He yelled out, "Clock! Mama! Clock!" This was shocking because I know that I have never heard the chimes when he was around and have not taught him that was the sound of a clock. He is learning so much so quickly!
Daniel loves to listen for airplanes and trains. Even if he hears, but cannot see the airplane, he will point to the sky and say, "Air - pane!" as it passes overhead.
He is very helpful around the house - helping everytime we unload the dishwasher. He doesn't like for his hands to be dirty and will ask to wash them. He proceeds to turn off the faucet with the papertowel and then throws the paper towel away - they taught him this 'trick' at school.
Daniel's favorite teacher was out for four weeks on medical leave. She told me some cute stories in our parent-teacher conference before she left. She said that Daniel doesn't like for his friends to cry. When they cry, he takes a tissue and tries to dry their tears. His friend Madeline was upset the other day when I picked him up. He squirmed to get down, walked over to Madeline and then squared her up to give her a big hug. His teacher also said that Daniel will be quietly sitting at the lunch table with his friends. She said that he will all of a sudden notice that it is quiet and squeal with delight - then laugh hysterically. His friends will squeal and laugh just as loud. Apparently, he is the life of the party. Sound like anyone else you know??? :-)
He really missed Rhonda. For a couple of weeks, he would say, "Rah-rah, where are you?" when we pulled into the daycare parking lot. The he would shrug his shoulders and say, "I not know?"
We saw Mary Linnley a few weeks ago when my parents kept her for the weekend. She and Daniel loved swinging. He also gave her a hug:
