Fall is here!

We went to a fall festival at the church where I grew up - Brookwood Baptist Church.  They had a great festival outdoors, and the weather was perfect! Daniel is Snoopy this year for Halloween!

In the future, I am sure we will have many pictures where Mary Linnley looks at Daniel like he's silly!

 Notice Daniel has a handful of leaves:

Daniel: "Hmmm...wonder what these taste like?" 

Mary Linnley: "Oh no!  He's not going to eat those, is he?"

Daniel: "I think I will try these out!"

Mary Linnley: "Cuz!  That's not cotton candy! You're so silly!"

First Surgery

Yesterday Daniel got ear tubes placed.  We arrived at Children's Hospital South at 6:15 AM.  I was so worried about him not being able to eat the morning of surgery; however, he was well-distracted by the tiny tykes cars in the hallway and the Disney Channel on TV in our room.  Welles pushed him around in the car for a good 30 minutes or so!  The nurse came to get him at 7:25, and I was allowed to walk him to the doors that led to the surgery center.  He did great!  Dr. Wiatrak came to us at 7:40 to let us know that it went well.  He was able to drain a lot of "icky" fluid from Daniel's ears, and he said that would relieve the pressure in Daniel's head, will help with his hearing, and that he would feel better immediately!  We are so thankful and relieved.

When they brought Daniel to us after recovery at 7:45, he was screaming like a madman.  The recovery nurse said it was completely normal and that the anesthesia made him feel out of sorts.  We left and arrived home around 8:25 or so.  He was back to his normal talkative and playful self after his nap.

My mom brought lunch over, and Aunt B came to visit.  They were able to teach Daniel to blow kisses.  He was so cute--wish I had gotten it on video!  Above is a picture that I took of him during our afternoon walk.

Thanks everyone for your prayers.  We are glad the procedure went as smoothly as it did.

Mr. Independence eats Cream of Wheat

Mr. Independence refused to let us feed him with a spoon today.  i guess it is because he wanted to enhance his hair with cream of wheat.  Messy or not, we still think he is a cutie-pie!

When you are eating cream of wheat,

Try to get it in your hair and in your seat!

V.I.B. 1st Birthday

Happy Birthday to a Very Important Baby!

So, our sweet niece turned one just one week ago!  Time has really flown.  We love Mary Linnley so much and are so thankful for the smiles she has brought to the Scott Family (and beyond!)

For her first birthday, she got two new cars!  It was so cute to see her learn to drive.  Below is her "Queen" pose and wave.

Bible in 90 Days

We finished!  Welles and I completed our goal of reading the Bible in 90 days, and we couldn't feel more accomplished.  I love that we were able to read together and encourage each other.  On day 90, I had about 3.5 days worth to read and Welles had about 5 days to read.  Thankfully, Daniel took two long naps so that we could finish. 

The neatest thing about this challenge is that as we were going through some tough and uncertain times (Daniel's sickness, our own illnesses, job transitions, etc.), we were comforted by God's word.  This was no easy feat - most of the readings took 45 minutes to an hour each day, but we learned that giving that time to studying God's word was satisfying. 

I would encourage anyone who is interested to check out the program and consider it.  The site that we followed, Mom's Toolbox, will be hosting another session in January.  Amy sets you up with a mentor (our mentor was friend and neighbor Kristin Solomon), and posts almost daily on the reading material for that day.  Having a mentor to check in on us and offer encouragement was very helpful.  Especially during those "sick" times when doing anything in a timely manner seemed impossible.

Learning to Crawl

This is Daniel's version of crawling.  He pulls the entire weight of his body on both arms and lurches forward.  He is going to be so strong!
